Protect Yourself Against Fraud
As you clean up from Irene keep these tips in mind:
Not everyone really wants to help. Some people are trying to take advantage. These tips will help you protect yourself against fraud.
Follow these steps before you hire someone to clear or repair your home or property:
- Hire someone you know. Ask friends, family and neighbors for names and phone numbers of people they would hire to work for them.
- Get a written estimate and read the fine print.
- Ask if the person doing the work has insurance. If they say yes, have them show you their insurance certificate.
- Insist on a written contract.
- Pay by check.

Protect yourself agaisnt fraud! Print the attached flyer from the Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living and share it with your friends and neighbors.
